Martin School

Martin School Repurposing

Martin School was voted to be closed by the Austin ISD Board of Trustees as part of the district's school consolidation process. Prior to the closure decision, the campus was undergoing renovations as part of the 2022 Bond Program. When the Board voted to close the school in November 2025, construction activities were suspended, leaving the campus in a partially completed condition.

Rather than declaring the property surplus, the campus has been designated as a land banked property, meaning it is being retained by the district for potential future educational or district use.

Re-Envisioning Martin School

Because Martin School has been designated as a land banked property, the district is now beginning the process of planning for its future educational or district use.

The first step is a districtwide academic visioning process to help identify future educational needs across the district. As part of this effort, Martin School will be evaluated to determine how the campus can best support those needs.

No decisions have been made about the campus's long-term use. Future recommendations will be informed by districtwide planning and continued community engagement.

Next Steps

To preserve the campus while long-term planning continues, Austin ISD plans to resume construction at a moderate level to complete select safety and building improvements. The district is not completing the full 2022 Bond modernization scope at this time but is advancing improvements that support the long-term preservation of the campus while future educational needs are evaluated.

Community Engagement

Austin ISD hosted a community meeting on July 14, 2026, to share updates on the Martin School campus, explain the land bank property process, provide information about districtwide academic visioning, and begin gathering community input to help shape the campus's future.

Community members are encouraged to review the presentation and share their feedback using the resources below.

Meeting Resources

Community feedback will help inform future planning as Austin ISD continues evaluating educational opportunities for the campus.
