Visual & Performing Arts at Austin ISD
The Summer Theatre Series is a free summer theatre program open to current 5th through 12th grade students in Austin ISD. Student actors, dancers, technicians, and musicians are invited to participate! Audition help is available and no experience is necessary!
The 2022 Austin ISD Summer Theatre Series is looking for students to play: Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Violin, Cello, Bass, Electric Guitar, Percussion, and Piano.
The 2022 Summer Theatre Series will feature the following programming:
2022 STS Rising Stars: A one-week educational theatre camp offering classes in acting, dancing, and singing. Rising Stars is “Training young actors to be tomorrow’s stars.” - June 6 - 10
2022 STS Musical: The Addams Family - June 6 - July 25
2022 STS Black Box Studio Production: Alice In Wonderland - June 6 - July 25
2022 STS Technical Track: Technical Theatre focus in Stage Management, Lights, Sound, Costumes, Make-Up, Props, and/or Scenery. - June 6 - July 25
To register for the program, please follow these steps:
- By midnight on May 20: Complete the Google Form.
- By midnight on May 20: Join the Google Classroom: Zbfrt5i
- By midnight on May 20: Submit your audition video to Google Classroom
Rehearsals take place at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm with extended hours the week of performances. Please view the tentative rehearsal calendar.
This year, we are excited to be providing several transportation options for our students. We will have a daily bus running to and from South Austin’s Bedichek Middle School campus, carpools, and free city bus passes available for students through the Kids Ride Free program with Capital Metro. City bus locations are conveniently located at the corner of Mueller Blvd. and Barbara Jordan Blvd. and across from Dell Children’s Hospital.
STS offers internships to AISD alumni who have completed at least one year of college or preparatory school. This position has a $500 stipend. Apply by April 15: Internship Application

The Austin ISD Visual & Performing Arts Department believes that a Visual & Performing Arts education is essential for the development of the whole child. The arts provide students with unique experiences that allow them to explore their passions, maximize their creativity and critical thinking skills, and learn valuable lessons about self-motivation, dedication, teamwork and communication.
AISD is a recognized leader in urban education and is dedicated to providing an arts-rich education for every student. Visual & Performing Arts education is available at all 129 schools. Every elementary student in the district receives a high-quality education in elementary and music.
Secondary schools throughout AISD offer many different Visual & Performing Arts strands for students to pursue:

Each of these sequential courses, all of which feature a meaningful and rigorous curriculum taught by expert staff, provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for cognitive, creative, emotional and social growth. By enrolling in these Visual & Performing Arts courses, students are also eligible to participate in clinics and contests such as All-City Guitar, All-City Band, All-City Choir, UIL Concert and Sight Reading, One Act Play, Dance Spectacular and Visual Art Scholastic Event, as well as various concerts, events and art exhibits throughout the community. Visual & Performing Arts students from AISD have won numerous district, state and national awards and scholarships, and many have gone on to pursue the arts in higher education and beyond.
