Elementary Art in Austin ISD

The primary focus of the Austin ISD Elementary Art program is to develop students’ artistic understanding and creative skills through hands-on art-making and visual exploration. Student artwork and exhibitions are a natural and appropriate outcome of this learning and reflect grade-level instruction and classroom experiences. The Elementary Art program is supported by district-aligned curriculum resources, including Yearly Planning Guides (YPGs), unit plans, assessment tools, vocabulary supports, and instructional materials aligned to TEKS and district expectations. These resources provide a strong instructional foundation while allowing teachers the flexibility to adapt lessons to meet the needs of their students and classrooms, ensuring both consistency and creative autonomy across Austin ISD elementary art classrooms.
