Austin ISD Police Department
The Austin ISD Police Department establishes a safe and secure environment for our future leaders to learn, grow and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
The Austin ISD Police Department employs 89 full-time police officers, including 43 School Resource Officers (SROs), 20 Patrol Officers and two Mental Health Coordinators. There are two SROs assigned to every high school campus and one SRO assigned to every middle school campus. The Patrol Officers primarily assist with calls for service and safety patrols at our elementary campuses.
The department also employs 39 civilian staff, including dispatchers, office support staff, emergency management and life safety systems personnel. The department provides general law enforcement, security and safety services for AISD 24 hours a day, year-round.
Recognized Law Enforcement Agency
The Department first became a Recognized Law Enforcement Agency by the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Recognition Program in August 2008. To become recognized, the department reviewed its policies, procedures, facilities and operations to prove compliance with more than 166 best practices established by Texas law enforcement professionals.
The Austin ISD Police Department is proud to be the first school district police department to receive this recognition.
Most recently, on Aug. 30, 2021, the Austin ISD Police Department received an official notice from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation of the achievement of Re-Recognized Status for compliance with the Texas Law Enforcement Agency's 177 Best Practices Recognition Program. The Department will undergo another Recognition Program review by the Texas Police Chief’s Association in 2025.
