Why the meeting videos disappeared

Immediately after the Board of Trustees went into executive session at the May 6 Information Session, the district staffer monitoring the meeting broadcast over Facebook Live pressed a button to conclude the stream.

  • What normally happens then: The stream of the meeting is uploaded automatically to Austin ISD’s Facebook page.
  • What actually happened: Not only did the video not upload, but several older videos of meetings dating back into 2021 disappeared from our page.

Here’s what we’re hearing:

Graduate Highlight: Maria Contreras overcomes obstacles at Akins

By Gabriella Beker with additional reporting Kathy Swartz and Sydney Kim

Three and a half years ago, Maria Contreras and her family started a new life in the United States.

As political asylum seekers from Venezuela, they had to give up everything they knew in pursuit of a better future. Her parents traded their jobs as a surgeon and a business owner for restaurant jobs and driving for Uber. While her parents worked, Contreras helped care for her five-year-old brother and taught her sixteen-year-old sister English.

Project Lighthouse

En Español

Austin ISD recognizes that connectivity for our students’ education is essential. We’ve launched the Project Lighthouse to generate revenue and funds to support connectivity needs.

The district has a robust network for all of our district locations. Additionally, we provided cellular hotspot devices to students, but that approach is costly and is no longer sustainable as federal funding expires.
