Flavia's Kitchen

Flavia’s Kitchen is a food truck located in Austin, Texas. The business began in January 2018 by Flavia Arzate. She came from Mexico 23 years ago and is a single mother of two girls. Flavia and her daughters run the food truck and have been slowly growing to what it is today. Which has allowed her to get a second food truck specifically used for catering. They make everything fresh daily with an authentic Mexican flavor. Flavia feels blessed by the many achievements she has acquired through her business as a Mexican woman in the United States. Some of those accomplishments include being able to cater to the governor and congress of the State of Texas. As well as placing in the “Yelp’s Top 100 Taco Spots” in the country. Through her many achievements and busy schedule, Flavia still finds the time to give back to her community through her business and participates in school fundraisers. Flavia is grateful to her customers for their support because of them Flavia’s Kitchen has become a great success.

Keith's BBQ

Keith grew up in Rockport Texas and put down roots in Austin in 2000. Living in Texas, Keith was no stranger to barbecue cook-offs and backyard pit-smoked meat. Keith decided to try his hand at the time-honored tradition of smoking barbecue and never looked back.

After a little practice, family and friend tastings, numerous seals of approval, and 3 years of catering success, Keith was encouraged to share his talent with the masses. Keith's BBQ was established 2012 when he bought his first food trailer that looked like a tiny BBQ shack. Soon after, Keith decided to get a bigger rig and introduced his "BBQ meat bus" concept and has been cruising Austin and slanging meat for over 10 years.

All of Keith's BBQ is all smoked on the Bus with post oak (for perfect blue smoke) using his signature rub for that delicious smoked flavor. Customer favorite meal is the 3 meat plate with  brisket, baby back pork ribs and sausage with a side of grandma's potato salad and beans.

By Tha POUND Cakes

By Tha POUND Cakes were originated in 2016 with the need to bring more of a different flavor sweets to the holiday table. After alot of trial and error I came up with a softened to perfection, rich flavor and very moist homemade pound cake.

No matter the time nor place you will always enjoy By Tha POUND Cakes.

The family really enjoyed having a new dessert and the pound cake was a hit. Overtime being a single parent of 4 can take its toll. As a parent I had to make sure the kids had my undivided attention in the most important years of there lives. So I had to put a stop to orders on pound cakes until a later time.

Life has a way of happening and bringing things back full circle.

Jan 2020 COVID surfaced and things weren't  good for a while. To change  the atmosphere in a positive way in 2022 the return of By Tha POUND Cakes came to stay.

Since the return hundreds of new customers were able to taste the new flavors LEMON & STRAWBERRY. By Tha POUND Cakes are now in a store front at THE ARBORETUM located in Austin TX off 10000 Research Blvd Suite 123.

I now work at pfisd at THE PROVAN OPPORTUNITY CENTER and the employees here love the pound cake. I'm so excited to be apart of this event so that other ISD's can get a taste of By Tha POUND Cakes.

The best part about By Tha POUND Cakes is that it's made for  ALL cultures and ALL generations with love.

Catfish Box

My name is James Atkins and I am originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  I was fortunate to have earned two football scholarships.  My first scholarship was to Pearl River Community College and my second one at Louisiana Tech University (LTU).  During my time at LTU,  I became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  I then began working as a Social Worker for the state of Mississippi.  I later joined the U.S Army, served for 4 years in Field Artillery before becoming injured, and was honorably discharged.  Next, I became a Child Protective Services Investigator in the  Child Abuse and Neglect Department, assisted with locating housing for the unhoused community at The Salvation Army, and would cook seafood on weekends for family and friends.  My daughter enjoyed my food so much that she strongly encouraged me to go into business for myself and I did exactly that!  Thanks to my daughter and my delicious and mouth watering fish, shrimp, and more, tasty foods from our family food truck are now being enjoyed by many around the state! "Family Frying Fresh Fish" is our motto, we are delighted to have the opportunity to once again serve the Austin ISD community, we offer discounts to teachers, first responders, social workers, veterans, and  look forward to making this a most enjoyable meal for you!

Mom & Pops Frozen Pops

Back in the summer of 2008, Laura Castillo, a 3rd grade bilingual teacher at St. Elmo Elementary in Austin, and her (then) husband, Manuel Flores, wanted to treat their two small children to a cool & refreshing paleta, (aka frozen pop). Growing up on the US-Mexico border, Laura & Manuel had enjoyed eating paletas as children and wanted their kids to have the same experience. Unfortunately, all the paletas that the paleteros and grocery stores had to offer were full of high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, preservatives and stabilizers.  The Flores decided their only option was to make their own paletas at home.  They started creating recipes using fresh, all natural and organic ingredients.  Their ninos were the official taste testers and it soon became apparent that they would have to share their delicious creations with the rest of Austin!

Today, Laura is still teaching at Norman Sims Elementary as a Bilingual Dyslexia Interventionist and Manuel is busy running the business. On occasion he can be seen dressed up as a Unicorn, greeting the students at Ridgetop Elementary. Their oldest child graduated from McCallum High School this year. Their youngest is a sophomore.

A Touch by Tonya

I can still hear my grand mother say, "Keep an eye on that food Tonya", "Yes ma'am" was the normal response. Thats when my love of cooking was acquired. Watching the food cook, steaming and smelling oh so good. I noticed she never measured anything, she just sprinkled until she felt it was enough. Raised from Louisiana roots, I was always told, it's not what you cook but what you put "in it"that makes a difference. That's why there is nothing but "LOVE" in my cooking. Cooking expresses my "love language". Seeing people enjoying the flavors of my food that's rich to the taste and seeing how it touches their soul, makes this 27 year old dream totally worth the wait. May 2022, “A Touch by Tonya Soul Food and Southern Cuisine” food trailer, became a reality! Gratitude. Philippians 4:12-13.
