Student Artwork Shines on the City’s First Electric Buses

The artwork of 23 Campbell Elementary Dragons will soon wind its way through the streets of Austin. 

Capital Metro on Wednesday unveiled its first two zero-emission, electric buses—covered inside and out in artwork designed by students at Campbell Elementary School in East Austin. 

Campbell Principal Keith Moore said the school, teachers, staff and students were honored and excited to be part of the project. 

NACER, New Community Partnership, Celebrates First Semester

Coming out of a successful first semester, Austin ISD’s NACER community partnership is celebrating its achievements throughout the fall and is planning to expand its reach in the spring. 

Northeast Austin Communities for Educational Readiness is a family of schools that work together to focus on developing a streamlined system of academic and social support throughout its community.

Austin ISD to Host Early College High School Open House Day

Austin ISD Early College High Schools will welcome families of prospective high school students to Early College High School Open House Day.

Akins, Crockett, Eastside Memorial, LBJ, Navarro, Northeast and Travis early college high schools will open their doors 9 a.m.- noon Jan. 25 offering campus tours, student performances and demonstrations, and an opportunity to meet staff.

School Safety and Security Committee

Your Voice Matters: Any parent who is interested in becoming a member should fill out the online Standard Application Form (English or Spanish) to apply. 

Under provisions of Section 37.109 of the Texas Education Code, and district policy BDF (Local), the School Safety and Security Committee is established by the Board of Trustees.

The responsibilities of the School Safety & Security Committee shall include, but are not limited to:

Developing and implementing emergency plans, consistent with the district multi-hazard emergency operations plan, to ensure that specific campus, facility, and support service needs are addressed.

  • Periodically providing recommendations to the Board and Superintendent regarding updating the district multi-hazard emergency operations plan, in accordance with established best practices.
  • Providing the district with any campus, facility, or support services information required in connection with safety and security audit or other reports.
  • Reviewing each report required to be submitted by the district to the Texas School Safety Center to ensure that the report contains accurate and complete information regarding each campus, facility, and support services in accordance with established criteria.
  • Consulting with local law enforcement agencies on methods to increase law enforcement presence near district campuses.

Austin ISD Creative Learning Initiative to Receive $100,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

The Austin ISD Creative Learning Initiative has been approved for a $100,000 Art Works grant, marking the fifth time CLI has received the grant.  

This one-year award will support increased access to the arts through campus and classroom partnerships with over 100 community arts organizations, ongoing professional learning about creative teaching, teacher resources, and additional contributions toward sustaining arts-rich schools.
