The health of our students and staff are one of the district’s top priorities, and we realize that the coronavirus outbreak happening in other parts of the world may be a concern for our community. 

With that in mind, we wanted to reassure the Austin ISD community that we are monitoring the health of our campuses for any signs of the illness.

To date, there have been no cases or suspected cases of coronavirus on any of our campuses or at any of our facilities. No cases have been found in Texas

Austin ISD is celebrating School Choice Week Jan. 27-31. The district is #AISDProud to offer numerous programs available to a wide variety of students.

The Garrisons are one family that chose AISD because of the unique opportunities.

Devon Garrison is a mother of three who wanted to find the right fit for her oldest daughter 5 years ago. She was attending a charter school and was not receiving the educational experience that she was looking for.

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2020–21 calendar at its Jan. 27 regular voting meeting. 

Three options had been presented to students, staff and families for voting Nov. 4–Dec. 30. Calendar 1 received the majority of votes, with 61 percent. A total of 16,562 individuals voted, exceeding all previous calendar votes.  

The first day of class for students will be Aug. 18, with Aug. 11 as the first day for teachers. The last day of class for students will be May 26, 2021; teachers will end their year May 27, 2021.

The Jan. 27 public hearing and regular voting meeting of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees will be at 7 p.m. in the Black Box Theater at the AISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd. 

Portions of AISD's new headquarters near Interstate 35 and East Ben White Boulevard remain under construction, including the new board room.  

Eastside Memorial ECHS senior Elizabeth Reyna recently achieved something that possibly no other Austin ISD student has done while still in school—she became a registered doula.

And as a doula, that meant that on a recent early morning at Seton Main Hospital, Reyna assisted in the birth of a newborn, being present and supportive to the new mother.
