Austin ISD to Host Census 2020 Ambassador Training

The Austin ISD Parent Engagement Support Office will host a Census 2020 Ambassador Training.

The training will equip ambassadors to help ensure that everyone in AISD and Central Texas is accurately represented in the 2020 U.S. Census. This effort will ensure our families and communities get their fair share of federal funding for schools, roads, healthcare, libraries, and social services.

When: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday, Jan. 27

Where: AISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Boulevard

Why: In November 2019, Austin ISD announced the launch of a coordinated outreach effort that will involve all campuses in the district to ensure that every child and family is counted in the 2020 U.S. Census in March.

AISD and the Census

The Decennial Census is so named because it is conducted every ten years, as required by the U.S. Constitution. The purpose of the Census is to count everyone living in the U.S. and its territories.

AISD is actively participating in the Austin-Travis County Complete Count Committee. The committee is striving to get all people in Travis County counted on the Census, but is particularly focusing on traditionally hard-to-count populations, which include infants and young children. AISD has also designated a Census coordinator, who is gathering information and providing it to campuses and the community. The coordinator will also provide assistance to parents and arrange for Census Bureau representatives to come to committee meetings and district functions.
