Where's the Bus App

Where's the Bus

Austin ISD Transportation offers the WheresTheBus app to provide families with timely information about the location of each child’s bus, including when it will arrive at their stop.

The app is free to AISD families whose children ride the bus. The app is available on any device with Internet access (smartphone, tablet, personal computer, iPod)—and takes less than five minutes to install.

Budget Briefs: Task Force Breaks Into Subcommittee Work, Receives Staff Information

The entire Budget Stabilization Task Force broke into subcommittees for the first time and received information from district staff at its seventh meeting Sept. 26. The group is now its third month of meeting bi-weekly to develop strategies to close the budget deficit. The Board of Trustees this summer approved the latest budget, including a $29 million dip into reserves. The district is expected to have even greater budget shortfalls in the future.

Here are three things to know as the task force moves forward.

District of Innovation

The Innovation District Advisory Council voted on September 29, 2025 and October 23, 2025 to approve the proposed update to the District of Innovation Plan. Please see the final October 2025 District of Innovation Plan approved by the Board of Trustees.

What is a District of Innovation?

The District of Innovation concept, passed by the 84th Texas Legislative Session in House Bill 1842, gives traditional public school districts many of the flexibilities available to Texas charter schools. The law is intended to give district more local control to suit their individual needs. In order to be granted these flexibilities, the district must adopt a District of Innovation plan. The plan can be developed to impact the entire district, a certain level of schools (i.e. only elementary schools), or individual campuses. Final plans must be approved by the District Advisory Council and the Austin ISD school board.
