Austin Ed Fund Announces the Jacquie Porter Scholarship Fund

Austin ISD students who want to make a career helping young students now have a new scholarship.

The Austin Ed Fund announced Friday morning that its Jacquie Porter Memorial Fund will be used to establish a scholarship for Austin ISD high school students who want a career in early childhood education.

“In 2020, our community lost a beloved educator and a true early childhood champion in Austin ISD, Jacquie Porter,” said Michelle Wallis, executive director of the Austin Ed Fund. “To honor and commemorate her legacy, we have established a scholarship in her name.” 

Ann Richards Marching Stars Make Return At Macy’s Day Parade

Wind chills and blistering cold filled the streets of New York City during one of the biggest parades of the year, The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, where the Ann Richards School Marching Stars Band participated after missing last year due to COVID-19.

"This year was a triumphant return to what we love most about our band family, which is being together and sharing these special moments as a team," said band director Stephen Howard. "The crowd was so welcoming and appreciative. We kept hearing ‘Hey Texas, welcome to New York!’ from the viewing areas."

District looks at leadership changes for Mendez Middle

Mendez Middle School may soon be under new leadership as Austin ISD explores ending the partnership that manages the school. For the past four years, Mendez has been managed under an agreement with T-STEM Texas.  Why it matters: If Mendez doesn’t score a C or higher in TEA’s accountability system in the 2022-23 school year, the school or even the district could be taken over by the state.
