Meal Programs

""

AISD provides breakfast and lunch daily at all schools, as well as after-school and summer meals at many eligible campuses. AISD provides free breakfast and lunch for all students at many schools through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. Students at schools not eligible for the CEP program dine at school using their meal status–free, reduced-price, or paid. These students may be eligible for free or reduced-price meals through state-funded programs or by completing an AISD household meal benefits application, learn more here. Students not eligible for free or reduced-price meals may purchase healthy, tasty school breakfast and lunch meals at a minimal cost.

No registration is required for students to dine at school, they may simply walk through the serving line on any day and select their meal components during designated breakfast and lunch times. Café staff may ask students to enter their I.D. number at the register. Students dining with a reduced-price or paid status may purchase meals using cash or funds on their SchoolCafe account.

AISD school meal programs are federally funded through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s School Breakfast Program (SBP), National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and Seamless Summer Option (SSO). Our menus follow the nutrition guidelines and serving sizes established by the federal nutrition guidelines for school meals.

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

Students enrolled at schools participating in the federally funded CEP program automatically receive free meals without any application or documentation. We do not collect or process meal applications from students enrolled in CEP schools.

Breakfast

Breakfast in the Classroom

AISD is proud to offer free Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) at many eligible schools throughout the district. BIC is a room service-style program that helps ensure all students have the opportunity to start their day with a healthy meal.

Food Service staff prepares, packs, and delivers breakfast meal components to classrooms each morning. Teachers bring in the insulated bags and coolers, allowing students to serve themselves and enjoy a free meal with their classmates after the start of the school day.

When we move breakfast from the cafeteria to the classroom we serve more students each morning, while seeing a decrease in behavioral problems and better attendance. Research also finds that students who eat school breakfast show improvements in concentration and overall academic performance. BIC creates real-life learning experiences, helps in community building between students and teachers, and removes the stigma often associated with school breakfast.

After-School Meals

In addition to breakfast and lunch, AISD provides free after-school meals at many schools. After-school meal programs at AISD operate under the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), a USDA federally funded program that offers evening meals to qualified campuses. Meals served at AISD meet the nutrition requirements established by the CACFP.

After-school programs that participate in the CACFP give children and teenagers the nutrition they need, and draw them into constructive activities that are safe, fun, and filled with opportunities for learning.

Campuses that are interested in participating in offering after-school meals or snacks should complete the form below and submit to their Cafeteria Manager. AISD Food Service will determine eligibility upon receiving the application and will notify the Program Coordinator before program feeding can begin.
