Request a compost, recycle, and landfill waste sorting training!

Did you know? 90% of the materials we throw away can be recycled or composted! Contact gbehl@texasdisposal.com to request an interactive waste sorting training for your class, school, or department, provided by AISD’s partner in zero waste, Texas Disposal Systems. You can also download Campus Waste Sorting Signs for your school. Together, we can help AISD meet its goal of keeping 90% of our waste out of the landfill by 2040.

Keep Austin Beautiful with activities for school and home

Looking for a green lesson to add to your classroom? Check out the free Activity Kits, like the Generation Zero Waste Activity Kits with lesson plans and materials for an activity with approximately 30 youth.  These kits are a great add-on for sustainability lessons, perfect for use with a substitute teacher, and work well with non-traditional learning and youth groups. The At Home Learning resources, including digital toolkits, are perfect for providing hands-on activities close to home and around your neighborhood.

Volunteer for Keep Austin Beautiful Day on Saturday, April 20th

Each April, Keep Austin Beautiful mobilizes thousands of volunteers for an incredible day of community service throughout the Greater Austin Area in honor of Earth Month. In 2023, over 2,200 volunteers participated in cleanups throughout all ten city council districts, removing litter and restoring our beloved green spaces and waterways. This year, there are over a hundred sites (including schools!) to choose from to volunteer on Saturday, April 20th, in honor of Keep Austin Beautiful. For more information and to volunteer, please visit our website here.
