Statement from Superintendent about recent national events / Declaración de la superintendente sobre los recientes eventos nacionales

At Austin ISD, we dedicate our lives as educators and community leaders to the future generation, cultivating civic-minded students. And thus we must condemn in the strongest possible terms the violent insurrection that occurred in our nation’s Capitol this past week. Our students have witnessed an attack on our democracy against the horrific backdrop of the ongoing pandemic and are looking to us to make sense of our future.

Reilly Elementary Wins National Green Infrastructure Award

Reilly Elementary is showing its commitment to the environment and our waterways. The school, in partnership with the city of Austin, won first place in the Green Infrastructure Award from the National Association of Flood & Stormwater Management Agencies.

Reilly won the award for its rain-catching landscape. Five rain gardens and 12 cisterns capture thousands of gallons of stormwater from the school's roofs and parking lots, reducing erosion and flooding problems on the property. The new landscape will also help improve the water quality and flow in Waller Creek.

Top Story: Vaccine Partnership Over winter break, Ascension Seton made available to Austin ISD a limited number of COVID-19 vaccines for immediate use. We are grateful for our 24-year partnership with Ascension Seton, which allowed some of our most vulnerable staff to begin receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.

McCallum High School Creates Outdoor Learning Space

McCallum High School has taken to the great outdoors by creating an outside learning space for science, english, and world language classes.

The space provides teachers and students a fun, scenic learning environment that helps accommodate social distancing.

“McCallum is blessed with several courtyards so we have made efforts to beautify and allow teachers the space to have their classrooms in these spaces,” said Associate Principal Gabe Reyes.
