Billboards: Join AISD's Family of Schools for Pre-K through College Prep
The Department of Communications and Community Engagement is working with Sendero Health Plans on a billboard campaign to support the district's enrollment priorities. Sendero has donated eight billboards in neighborhoods with Title 1 schools, which will be posted throughout Austin by the end of the month.
Celina Luckevich Wins AISD Sustainability Design Contest
Bowie High School senior Celina Luckevich has been named first-place winner of the Austin ISD sustainability design contest. Luckevich’s submission was selected from 30 student entries.
MEDIA ADVISORY: Barrington Elementary to Celebrate Diversity at Multicultural Night on May 28
Barrington Elementary School and its Dual Language Committee invite the community to Multicultural Night, celebrating the diversity of its community and families.
What: The celebration will showcase music and dance performances, along with food from different cultures. The purpose is to provide the Barrington community with an opportunity to learn about diversity and to share their experiences about their cultures’ similarities and differences.
Johnston HS Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The annual Johnston High School Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ceremony will be held during the Memorial Day weekend at Eastside Memorial HS located at 1012 Arthur Stiles.
This year, eight (8) new names will be inscribed on the monument which is located in front of Johnston High School. This will make a total of sixty-three (63) ex-students from Johnston High School in east Austin that died as a result of the Vietnam conflict. Nineteen (19) were

On Tuesday evening, Austin ISD, in collaboration with Austin Partners in Education, celebrated teachers and staff at Salute. The annual event recognizes some of the district's outstanding team members for their continued dedication to student excellence and achievement in schools.
AISD Closed for Memorial Day, May 25
Austin families are reminded that Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day.
All schools in Austin ISD will be closed on that day and students and staff should not report to schools and offices.
Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 26.
Austin ISD, City of Austin, Capital Metro seeking public input on community issues
Conversation Corps, a partnership between the City of Austin, Capital Metro and Austin ISD has announced conversation topics for the next six months.
Beginning the second Monday of each month, groups meet throughout Austin to talk about specific issues that affect the community.
In small group settings, facilitators lead each group through a structured dialogue, which gives participants a chance to share their feedback.
Creative Learning Initiative Announces Leadership, Excellence Award Winners
The lead partners of the Creative Learning Initiative—MINDPOP, Austin ISD and the city of Austin—on May 19 announced the 2015 Creative Learning Leader Award nominees and winners for the Award of Excellence.
The awards recognize the leadership and excellence in creative teaching of talented teachers and principals participating in the Creative Learning Initiative.
