The Creative Learning Initiative at AISD

Austin ISD is a Lead Partner of the Creative Learning Initiative.

The Creative Learning Initiative seeks to provide a quality arts-rich education for each and every child in Austin ISD, as well as professional development and ongoing support for teachers in arts-based instruction strategies through the collaborative support between Austin ISD, the City of Austin, MINDPOP, local artists, businesses and philanthropic organizations.

The Creative Learning Initiative is being implemented in a phased 10-year approach in AISD schools.  This approach allows the district to provide training for approximately 1,500 teachers at 36 schools at a time before the schools transition to their own sustainability plans.

CLI is currently being implemented in the following Vertical Teams:

  • Crockett Vertical Team

  • Eastside Memorial Vertical Team

  • LBJ Vertical Team (Begins August 2016)

  • McCallum Vertical Team (Sustaining)

  • Travis Vertical Team (Sustaining)

Each year a new vertical team is selected to participated through an application process.

By 2022, over 6,000 teachers will be affecting the lives of AISD's 86,000 students through arts-based instructional strategies.

Our Goals
