Phoenix Bound: Meet the Six AISD Students Headed to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair this May

More than 360 million miles away, Anderson High School students Alex Crisara and Alex “Jahan” Rabii are orbiting Jupiter, sort of. The students themselves are grounded here on planet Earth, but their namesake asteroids are off dancing in the cosmos. The asteroids were named in the boys’ honor after they placed at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) two years ago—an achievement they’re hoping to revisit this May.

U.S. News and World Report Ranks Four AISD High Schools Among Best in the United States

AUSTIN, TX—Four Austin Independent School District high schools are among the best in the nation, according to the 2013 U.S. News and World Report. The district’s Liberal Arts Science Academy and Anderson, Bowie and McCallum High Schools earned a spot on the publication’s list of “Best High Schools.”

AISD, APIE to Honor Volunteers and Staff Members Through Celebrate and Salute Events

The Austin Independent School District invites staff members, families and community members to help celebrate district employees and volunteers who commit their time, talent and energy to help strengthen Austin schools.

AISD is teaming up with Austin Partners in Education to co-host two annual events dedicated to recognizing employees and volunteers. 

AISD Trustees Recognize 32 Teachers for Earning National Board Certification

Austin, TX—Tonight, Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees recognized 32 teachers, who have achieved certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

This year, AISD boasts 248 National Board Certified Teachers, which is more than any other school district in Texas. Sixty-one of these teachers serve at Title I schools.

The 2012-13 newly certified and renewed teachers, who have earned national board certifications, are:

Bo Eason Performs "Runt of the Litter" at Austin High School

The Austin High School Theater Department will host former Houston Oilers safety Bo Eason as he performs his one-man play Runt of the Litter

Runt of the Litter is a semi-autobiographical one-man performance, written and starred in by Eason, about two brothers striving for success in the world of professional football. The performance has been heralded as having broad appeal for sports enthusiasts and theatre-lovers alike.

Potential Partners Present Proposals on Eastside Memorial School Improvement to AISD Community

AUSTIN, TX­—The Austin Independent School District will hold a public meeting for oral presentations by potential external partners, who responded to the district’s request for proposals to lead school improvement at Eastside Memorial High School.

What: Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., and American Institutes for Research in Washington, D.C., present proposals to partner with the district.
