Austin, TexasThe Austin Independent School District invites staff members, families and community members to help celebrate AISD volunteers who commit their time, talent and energy to help strengthen Austin schools.

AISD is teaming up with Austin Partners in Education to host Celebrate, which recognizes the hundreds of volunteers who serve in a variety of roles--from reading tutors and classroom coaches to mentors who provide support to students who have a parent in prison.

What: Celebrate, an annual event celebrating AISD volunteers. Among the awards that will be presented are: PTA of the Year, Partner in Education Coordinator of the Year and APIE Business Partner of the Year. In addition, parent ambassadors, community organizations, school business partners and other volunteers will be honored.

When: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30

Where: For the City Center, 500 E. St. Johns Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Background: Volunteers play an integral role in helping make AISD nationally recognized as an outstanding school district. AISD does not have a definitive total of all of its volunteers because community members enter into volunteer roles through many different avenues. However, APIE placed more than 950 volunteers in classrooms throughout the district for weekly academic support. Another 750 APIE mentors work with students individually. In addition, more than 5,000 volunteer background checks have been processed for other campus volunteer roles such as library assistants and field trip chaperones.

Celebrate will include student performances, guest presenters and prizes. The City of Austin serves as a signature sponsor for the event.
