Lunar New Year Celebration

What: Lanier High School's Atlas club will be hosting a Lunar New Year celebration on Friday, February 15th in the cafeteria from 5:30pm until 6:30pm. The event will feature the wonderful dragon team of Summitt Elementary. Also, dances from India, Korea, Philippine, Nepal, Iraq and Vietnam will be presented and free Asian food served. Mark your calendars and come to support cultural diverity.

Reminder: AISD Seeks Community Input at Public Hearings for Potential Bond Package in 2013

Austin, Texas—Members of the public will have an opportunity to address Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees and provide feedback at a public hearing regarding a potential Bond Program in 2013.  The meeting will be followed by a televised special board meeting.

Pajama Literacy Event

What: We invite the parents and students from our community to read around the world with us at our 2nd annual Pajama Literacy Event at Lanier High School. Join us for a morning of exploring our world with international crafts and activities and a professional storyteller. We will begin with a morning snack in the cafeteria, then move into the library for our main event. Every child/student present will receive a free book and we will have raffle prizes as well. Remember to wear your pajamas everyone!

Cunningham Wins Bright Green Future Grant

Cunningham Elementary School was awarded a $3,000 grant from the City of Austin's Bright Green Future Grant program. 

The goal of the grant is to promote environmental stewardship in the current student generation. Grants are intended to foster school-wide and in-classroom environmental actions and to encourage environmental practices and programs involving students, parents, teachers, principals, custodians and district-level administrators in Austin K-12 public and private schools. 

AISD Invites Families to 7th Annual Feria Para Aprender

Austin, TexasThe Austin Independent School District invites students and their families to join district team members at Feria Para Aprender, the largest Spanish-language education fair in Central Texas, Saturday.

What: The seventh annual Feria Para Aprender, which is free and open to the public.

Travis High School Digs in Deep to Go Green

Austin, Texas—This weekend, students at Travis High School in the Austin Independent School District are rolling up their sleeves for an environmentally friendly, community project-digging into unused courtyard space to add new life to their South Austin campus.

Who: Travis students, community volunteers and permaculture experts

What: The school community is working together to green the campus, helping students build a water catchment system, garden planters and edible landscape.

Community Members to Discuss Careers, Education with Blackshear Elementary Students

Students at Blackshear Elementary School in the Austin Independent School District will learn the ins and outs of presiding over a courtroom, serving their city as an elected official and even upholding the law as a police officer, when more than 30 community leaders visit their campus this Friday to discuss their careers.
