Community Volunteers Work Alongside Students to Revitalize Courtyard
Austin, Texas—This weekend, students at Travis High School in the Austin Independent School District are rolling up their sleeves for an environmentally friendly, community project-digging into unused courtyard space to add new life to their South Austin campus.
Who: Travis students, community volunteers and permaculture experts
What: The school community is working together to green the campus, helping students build a water catchment system, garden planters and edible landscape.
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26
Where: Travis High School, courtyard, 1211 E Oltorf St.
Background: Travis High School has invited volunteers to dig, rake, haul supplies and build composting bins and to bring additional tools such as steel rakes, wheel barrows, shovels or pickaxes.
