Community Members Discuss Careers, Education with Elementary Students for Role Model Day

Students at Blackshear Elementary School in the Austin Independent School District learned the ins and outs of presiding over a courtroom, serving their city as an elected official and even upholding the law as a police officer, when more than 60 community leaders visited their campus Friday, Jan. 25, to discuss their careers. 

Free Spanish-language Parent Workshop

The Austin independent School District’s Hispanic Futures program presents Los Años Maravillosos” (the Wonder years), a new Spanish-language workshop for parents of students in grades 5-8.

The workshop will be presented at 6:30 p.m on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Burnet Middle School, 8401 Hathaway; and at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Garcia Middle School, 7414 Johnny Morris Road.

Austin, TX—Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Williams and Austin Independent School District Superintendent Meria Carstarphen will tour Dobie Middle School’s nationally recognized Advancement via Individual Determination program, which helps close the achievement gap by preparing students for the rigors of college and success in a global society.

AISD Invites Community to Help Name New Facilities

Austin, Texas—The Austin Independent School District invites the community to help name new facilities and facility extensions. The Board of Trustees is currently taking nominations for the Southeast Bus Terminal and the North Central Elementary School #1.

The nomination process will close on Feb. 8 at midnight. The school board is scheduled to take action in March.
