AISD Students Exceed Statewide STAAR Passing Rates in all Third through Fifth Grade Subject Areas

Austin, TX—Today, the Texas Education Agency announced the statewide passing rates for the 2012 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) for third through eighth grade topped 70 percent for most tests. Students in the Austin Independent School District exceeded the statewide passing rates in all subject areas for third through fifth grade.

AISD Accepts School Transfer Applications for 2013-14

The Austin School District continues to accept applications for school transfers for the 2013-14 school year. The deadline to apply for priority transfers and non-priority transfers to be considered during the first-round lottery selection is Thursday, Jan. 31.

Each year, AISD determines which schools should be frozen to transfers because they have, or are expected to have, enrollments that exceed their capacities. Also, some schools are frozen to maintain stability in tracking patterns.

Real Talk: Education Issues in the Texas Legislature

Where: Austin High School Performing Arts Center, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

What: The Austin Independent School District and the Austin Council of PTAs present Real Talk: Education Issues in the Texas Legislature. Educators, parents and community members are invited to attend this one-hour forum with local lawmakers to hear their views on the public education issues the Texas legislature will address this session.

South High School Community Meeting

What: Austin ISD would like to invite the community to share feedback on potential academic programming options for a future high school in South Austin.

The South High School community meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11, in the cafeteria at Austin High School.  There will be brief presentation followed by an interactive breakout session.  If you have not had an opportunity to share your feedback, this will be the final meeting to follow this format.

The next meeting will feature a panel discussion and will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 7 at Travis High School.

Child care and interpretation services will be provided.

What: Has your student expressed an interest in becoming an architect, computer programmer, nurse or doctor?

Austin ISD would like to invite you to share your feedback on potential academic programming options for career and technical education in the areas of computer science, health science, information technology, architecture and construction and new concepts like video game development.

The career and technical education community meeting will take place, at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 4, in the cafeteria at Anderson High School.

South High School Community Meeting

What: Members of the community are invited to join AISD for a meeting to discuss the community feedback that has been gathered by the South High School planning team.

Tutors Needed for AISD's Victory Program

The Austin Independent School District is seeking tutors to assist with the Volunteers In Communities Tutoring Our Responsible Youth (VICTORY) program. VICTORY offers free, one-on-one tutoring session to students in first through 12th grades at designated Austin Public Library branches. Tutors are needed for all subject areas and must be available for at least one hour-long session between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays.
