AISD Board Approves Single-Sex Schools

Updates 2013-14 School Calendar

Austin, TX— Tonight, The Austin Independent School District’s Board of Trustees voted to approve an updated 2013-14 school district calendar, the use of 2004 and 2008 contingency funds, and also took action on Final Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations.

Trustees approved a revision to the spring break 2013-14 calendar. AISD changed the dates of spring break to match the University of Texas at Austin’s calendar.

The board approved the use of 2004 and 2008 contingency funds for critical facility renovation projects and facilities improvements. Currently, there is a balance of approximately $9.1 million.

The board also considered two Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations on single-sex education. Trustees approved single-sex program designs for the Garcia and Pearce middle schools and voted in favor of the School for Young Men proposal starting in the school year 2014-15.

Additionally, trustees voted to implement a statutory provision that requires end of course (EOC) assessment performance to count for 15 percent of a student’s final grade. This is the second year that the requirement has been deferred.
