H-E-B Excellence in Education Healthy Campus Grant - Due November 11th

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Healthy Campus grant is designed to assist school campuses with resources and funding to increase health and nutrition education for their students.

Grant monies are awarded to develop, implement and improve activities and programs centered around the three pillars of H-E-B's statewide health improvement effort: Food, Body and Life. Twelve schools will each receive a $15,000 grant that is paid out during three years. Please submit all applications by November 11, 2011.

AISD Expands Literacy Campaign and Tutoring Support

The Austin Independent School District (AISD) has undertaken a campaign to address literacy at every level of instruction. The goal is to have all students reading on grade level by grade 2.

Among the current initiatives to reach this goal are a Response to Intervention Pilot at eight elementary campuses, and the use of a universal screener and progress monitoring instruments. Another literacy project is being undertaken jointly by the district, the City of Austin, and Travis County through the Joint Subcommittees.
 

Sexting, Teens and the Law - a Special Workshop for Families

What: “Sexting” is the electronic sharing of sexually explicit pictures, videos or text messages primarily between two cell phones. On September 1, 2011, Texas law regarding sexting changed.

Sexting, Teens and the Law is a free workshop for parents covering recent changes in the law regarding sexting, what to look for and how to avoid it. Join us on Wednesday, November 9 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at McCallum High School, located at 5600 Sunshine Drive. This session is targeted to parents in the McCallum HS vertical team, but anyone is welcome.

3M Foundation Donates 248 Shoot n’ Share Camcorder Projectors to Support Technology in the Classroom

The 3M Foundation has donated 248 Shoot n’ Share Camcorder Projectors to the Austin Independent School District (AISD).

This product will be distributed amongst all schools as well as to district departments to support the Technology Department’s vision that that every teacher, student, parent and administrator will have online access to all relevant educational resources. 

Lanier Celebrates 50 Years of Greatness - November 12

The Viking gold is shining brighter this year as Lanier High School celebrates its 50th Golden Anniversary (1961-2011). You won’t want to miss all of the fun activities planned for alumni, their families and community members on Saturday, November 12!

The festivities kick-off at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the Viking Charge 3K Fun Run, or for the Vikings who prefer riding to running, there will be a Ride and Raid of the J. Lorraine Ghost Town near Manor open to all motorcyclists at 10 a.m.
