Statement from Austin ISD Director of Public Relations and Multicultural Outreach Regarding Military Recruiter

Austin, TX— Austin Independent School District (AISD) Director of Public Relations and Multicultural Outreach Alex Sánchez released the following statement today regarding the arrest of a military recruiter who visited the McCallum High School campus:

"The school district's top priority is the safety and wellbeing of students. We are collaborating with Austin Police Department in this active investigation. To clarify, the alleged incident did not occur on AISD property and the recruiter was not an AISD employee. The school district has a strict policy that requires all visitors to check in at the main office of each campus. Specifically, McCallum High School goes above and beyond this policy by using the Raptor system, which scans each visitor's driver's license. AISD had no knowledge of any concerns with this recruiter prior to this incident. As soon as the district was made aware of the situation, AISD police took immediate action to prevent this particular individual from entering our campuses."
