Sexting, Teens and the Law - a Special Workshop for Families

“Sexting” is the electronic sharing of sexually explicit pictures, videos or text messages primarily between two cell phones. On September 1, 2011, Texas law regarding sexting changed.

Sexting, Teens and the Law is a free workshop for parents covering recent changes in the law regarding sexting, what to look for and how to avoid it. Join us on Wednesday, November 9 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at McCallum High School, located at 5600 Sunshine Drive. This session is targeted to parents in the McCallum HS vertical team, but anyone is welcome.

Solar Mural Dedicated in Honor of Retired Graham Elementary Teacher Angie Roberts

Austin, TX— For more than four decades, Angie Roberts spent her days teaching students at Austin Independent School District (AISD) and 28 of those years were at Graham Elementary. Roberts retired in May 2011 and the staff and students at Graham Elementary honored her during a special Dedication Ceremony of an interactive solar mural on Wednesday, November 2 at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony took place at Graham Elementary, located at 11211 Tom Adams Drive, Austin, Texas.

Austin ISD Earns Highest Award From Texas Comptroller for Financial Transparency

Austin, TX— Austin Independent School District (AISD) is proud to announce the district has earned the 2011 Gold Leadership Circle Award for a second year in a row from the Texas Comptroller. The Gold Leadership Circle Award is presented to cities, counties and school districts which meet the highest standard for financial transparency online.

Austin Family Support Coop. Meeting – Support for Families of Students with Special Needs

WHO: The Austin Family Support Cooperative will host its next meeting on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Covington Middle School, located at 3700 Convict Hill. The Family Support Cooperative, a partnership between Austin Independent School District (AISD), Austin Travis County Integral Care and the Arc of the Capital Area, was created to inform and support families of children with disabilities. The evening will include multiple presentations as well as provide a meeting space for various support groups.

The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has awarded the Austin Independent School District the 2011 GOLD Leadership Circle Award for budget transparency for the second year in a row.

The Gold Leadership Circle Award is presented to cities, counties and school districts which meet the highest standard for financial transparency online. “Gold” highlights those entities that are setting the bar with their transparency efforts.

Austin ISD is Home to the First High School Adopted by Gates Millennium Scholars

Austin, TX— Austin Independent School District (AISD) is proud to announce that Gates Millennium Scholars Association – Texas Chapter at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) has adopted Garza Independence High School and will assist more than 200 seniors with tutoring, mentoring, and scholarship application assistance. Gates Scholarships cover the full cost of tuition, housing, and books at any college in the United States.
