Engaging your school through a Green Team is a great way to make enriched learning, sustainability, and community come to life at your campus.
Green Teams are encouraged in the 2010 AISD Board Resolution and support the 2011 Environmental Sustainability Policy. If you don’t have a school green team yet, there are many fun and meaningful ways to take action.
Start a Green Team & Become a National Wildlife Federation EcoSchool
Austin ISD is a proud partner of the National Wildlife Federation EcoSchools program. The EcoSchools framework activates school-based teams of students, administrators, educators, and community volunteers to drive environmental stewardship and educational enrichment at their campus.
In order to streamline activation, engage student, faculty, staff, and community members, track progress, award incentives and certifications, and best support your green team, we are committed to getting every campus in AISD registered in the NWF EcoSchools program.
Get started with NWF EcoSchools at your school today with these easy steps:
- Fill out this questionnaire
- Check out this AISD Green Team Starter Kit & EcoSchools Certification Guide. The starter kit also includes funding opportunities for your school’s eco-actions.
- Register your school on the NWF EcoSchools platform
- Complete actions from the action card library and submit your documentation to the National Wildlife Federation.
- Celebrate your awarded certification!
- Repeat each year!
Join the Quarterly AISD Green Team Teacher & Staff Trainings
AISD Sustainability & Outdoor Learning teams will host whole district quarterly trainings and check-ins with campus green team leads in September, November, February, and April. These will provide ongoing support for your school eco-activities and foster collaboration and idea-sharing between campuses. Your school does not have to be registered with the NWF EcoSchools program to participate, but it is highly encouraged. Fill out this form to receive the calendar invites.
Join the school Green Team Leads Google Chat Group
Stay up to date on meetings and events, as well as commune with other green team leads on action cards and activities in this Google Chat group (AISD staff and teachers).
Add Sustainability Goals to Your Campus Improvement Plan (CIP)
See this guide to add Sustainability to your school’s annual Campus Improvement Plan. Plans are reviewed by the school Campus Advisory Council and finalized in October of each year.
Volunteer at a School
Schools are encouraged to post volunteer opportunities such as green career guest speakers, zero waste lunchtime volunteers, garden workdays, etc. to the Voly online platform. Interested volunteers can register, view opportunities, and help out!
