Overview
Maplewood Elementary School, incorporates the arts in all of its classes, allowing students to make connections through a variety of ways, such as dance and movement. Offering pre-kindergarten through fifth grade campus, the school is a beautifully diverse representative of Austin. The campus, which was established in 1952, is a model for dual-language learning. The school offers a wide variety of activities, ranging from the Shakespeare team and student council to chess club and ukulele choir. The school has earned a No Place for Hate distinction for four years in a row. Students can be enrolled in the fee-based after-school program Creative Action at Maplewood, which includes professional teaching artists who lead creativity classes in visual art, filmmaking, music, movement, puppetry, creative writing and acting.
