2020–21 Transfer Information

Austin ISD will begin accepting requests for school transfers for the 2020–21 school year on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020. Non AISD employees may request out-of-district transfers beginning Monday, Feb. 3, 2020.

Requests may be submitted or mailed to the Office of Student Services, Austin ISD Headquarters, 4000 S. IH-35 Frontage Road, Room 151, Austin 78704, during regular business hours.

Applications for priority transfers and non-priority transfers will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020All requests received during this time period will be given equal consideration regardless of when they are submitted.

Families submitting requests for students who are new to the district or who have had an address change since enrolling in school this year need to attach proof of residence and a picture ID. A birth certificate needs to be provided for students who are new to the district.

How to Apply for a Transfer

  1. Apply through the Parent Cloud (beginning Jan. 3, 2020). Create a Parent Cloud account. The application is called Online Student Transfer Request.
    • New students residing in Austin ISD need to complete online registration (also in the Parent Cloud) before submitting an online transfer request.
    • New students who do not reside within AISD boundaries cannot use the online system unless they have previously (or currently) been enrolled in AISD.
    • Online transfer requests are for non-tuition Pre-K4 through grade 12.
    • Please contact the Office of Early Childhood at 512-414-4790 for information about Pre-K3 and tuition-based Pre-K4.
  2. Submit transfer requests and required documents in person to the Office of Student Services, Headquarters, 4000 S. IH-35 Frontage Road, Room 151, Austin 78704 during regular business hours, 7:45 a.m.–4:45 p.m.
  3. Mail transfer requests and required documents to the Office of Student Services, Austin ISD Headquarters, 4000 S. IH-35 Frontage Road, Room 151, Austin 78704.  
  4. Fax transfer requests and required documents to the Office of Student Services at 512-414-4994.  

Schools Frozen to Transfers in 2020–21

Each year, Austin ISD determines which schools (K–12) should be frozen to transfers because they have, or are expected to have, enrollments that exceed their capacities. Also, some schools are frozen to maintain stability in tracking patterns. 

  • High schools: Akins ECHS and Navarro ECHS, Austin, Bowie and McCallum.
  • Middle schools: Gorzycki, Lively, Lamar and Murchison.
  • Elementary schools: Baldwin, Baranoff, Becker (except dual language), Blazier, Brentwood, Casis, Cowan, Doss, Gullett (except kindergarten), Hill, Kiker, Lee (except kindergarten), Maplewood, Mathews (except kindergarten), Menchaca, Mills, Oak Hill, Reilly (except dual language through fourth grade), Ridgetop (except dual language), Summitt (except dual language), Sunset Valley (except dual language through fourth grade) and Zilker (except kindergarten).

Frozen schools may still accept applications for magnet, application or dual language programs. Please contact the school directly for more information.

Requests may be submitted or mailed to the Office of Student Services (Room A200), Carruth Administration Center, 1111 W. Sixth St. during regular business hours, 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Applications for priority transfers and non-priority transfers will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.

A transfer request form may be obtained in the Office of Student Services or at a school. If a campus is closed during a summer month, the Office of Student Services will provide a form.

All student transfer requests require a parent or guardian photo ID and proof of residence. Parents or guardians submitting requests for students who are new to the district will need to provide a birth certificate for the new student.

Frozen Schools

Also, some schools are frozen to maintain stability in tracking patterns. The list of schools frozen to transfers for the 2019–20 school year was announced Dec. 17 at the regular board meeting.

  • High Schools: Akins, Austin, Bowie, Lanier ECHS and McCallum
  • Middle Schools: Fulmore, Lamar, Murchison and Small
  • Elementary Schools: Baldwin, Baranoff, Blazier, Brentwood (except kindergarten), Casis (except kindergarten), Cowan, Doss, Gullett (except kindergarten), Hill, Kiker, Maplewood (except kindergarten and sixth grade), Menchaca, Oak Hill, Summitt (except kindergarten), and Zilker (except kindergarten)

In addition, the following grade levels will be frozen to priority and general transfers but will accept dual language applications:

  • Becker (Pre-PK through third grade)
  • Reilly (Pre-K through third grade)
  • Sunset Valley (Pre-K through third grade)

Ridgetop is frozen to priority and general at all grades but will take dual language applications for Pre-K and Kindergarten.
