Elementary & Secondary Parent Conference Days / Student Holiday / Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is celebrated on the first day of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar, usually between January 21 and February 20. This year, it falls on February 17. Festivities last 15 days, with the first seven typically being public holidays. During this time, families reunite, children and young people receive gifts and homes are thoroughly cleaned to welcome good fortune and fresh blessings for the year ahead.

Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur, also called the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day in Judaism. Lasting about 25 hours, it is observed through fasting and prayer, reflecting its central themes of atonement and repentance. Those observing refrain from eating and drinking to devote the day to seeking God’s forgiveness for past sins and performing acts of charity.

Enrollment Update: Guidance for Families Still Facing Challenges (En español)

Dear Austin ISD Community,

We want to sincerely apologize to families who have experienced challenges with the enrollment process. We know this has been frustrating, and we are working around the clock to resolve issues as quickly as possible.

While most students’ enrollment is already complete, some families may still be experiencing difficulties. Here are the most common issues and what to do:

New Texas law bans student personal device use during school hours (En español)

During the most recent legislative session, Texas lawmakers passed, and Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law, House Bill 1481, which prohibits students from using personal devices on district premises during school hours.

The law aims to boost student focus, reduce distractions, and lower cyberbullying risks.

What it means:

Transportation & Outdoor Air Quality

Reducing the number of people coming and going to school in gas and diesel-powered vehicles substantially improves air quality and traffic congestion around schools and contributes to safer spaces for walking and biking. These AISD initiatives address mobility options for students and staff, improve our school and community air quality, and demonstrate actions to address the challenges of climate change.

Indoor Air Quality

The average American spends 90% of their lives indoors (source). This means that the quality of indoor environments can have an impact on our health. With much of Austin’s population in our buildings, AISD strives to provide healthy indoor environments for learning, teaching, and working.

Green Building

Austin ISD construction projects integrate sustainable design so the district’s facilities not only conserve resources through a reduced reliance on water and energy, but also enhance building occupant health and student learning outcomes.
