An Update from Trustees on the Superintendent Search (En español)

Dear Austin ISD Community,

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees met in executive session at our December 7 board meeting to review applications for superintendent. We received six applications and considered each one. 

Thank you to everyone who applied for your interest in Austin ISD.

Our voting meeting on December 14 will include a potential vote to name a lone finalist for the superintendent position.

Future of school funding looking bleak following failure of school voucher bill (En español)

The most recent efforts at the Texas Capitol to create a school voucher program were defeated after lawmakers voted 84-63 to remove the creation of education savings accounts from the session’s education funding bill, HB 1.

  • A coalition of all Democrats and 21 Republicans stood firm against the proposal that would use taxpayer dollars to pay for private schooling.

Austin ISD to launch pilot program to bridge digital divide

The project—called Project Lighthouse—will increase internet access in neighborhoods where it has historically been limited. 

Why it matters: Students’ academic performance can be negatively impacted without internet access. They may not be able to connect with teachers and classmates or get online homework help outside school hours. 

Yes, and…Families can miss information or lack a direct line of communication with their schools and teachers.
