As of February 17, 2026, Austin ISD has successfully completed all requirements of the TEA Agreed Order (CDN # 227-901) and has been released from state oversight. The SEFAC continues its mission as a district-led advisory body dedicated to sustaining these improvements and ensuring high-quality outcomes for all students served by Special Education.

The Special Education Family Advisory Committee (SEFAC) partners with district leadership to ensure the long-term success of the Austin ISD Special Education Department. We focus on three primary pillars:
Clear & Inclusive Vision: Collaborating on system-wide approaches that support inclusive school environments.
Instructional Excellence: Promoting strong Tier 1 instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to remove barriers for all learners.
Ongoing Accountability: Providing parent-led oversight of special education metrics, including evaluation timelines and the Special Education Strategic Plan.
We are actively seeking dedicated parents and guardians to join our committee.
Building on the foundation of the long-standing Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), which served the district for over 15 years, the committee was reformulated as part of the TEA Agreed Order in 2023 as the Special Education Family Advisory Committee (SEFAC). This change was made to create a more family-centered body that prioritizes the direct voices and leadership of parents and guardians. Since 2023, the committee has evolved into a vital bridge between families and the district. Although the district was released from state oversight in early 2026, the SEFAC remains a cornerstone of our Special Education department, ensuring that the progress made is sustained and that family voices remain central to our decision-making.
Families interested in their neighborhood school, transfer options, application-based programs or Pre-K can now register all in one place!
Yes, and…Students considering more than one school option can rank up to seven programs or campuses.
Registration will be split into two registration periods:
Austin ISD is receiving reports of spoofing and phishing emails. Spoofing is a cybercrime where someone pretends to be a trusted contact in order to gain access to sensitive personal information. This means that staff and families could receive an email that appears to be a legitimate Austin ISD email, however it is not.
Rest assured our technology teams are investigating and taking all the steps necessary to address the issue. At this time, our cyber security systems have caught all the spoofed emails and none have been successfully delivered.
