Austin ISD to Hold Norman Elementary School Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Norman Tigers are on the move Thursday, May 23, and the entire community is invited to join in the celebration as G.W. Norman Elementary School Principal Wendy Mills, along with Austin ISD Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz, and the architects from Kirksey break ground on a new era for the elementary school.

"We are inviting all former students of Norman and Sims Elementary schools to attend the groundbreaking" said Mills, who serves as principal of the currently co-located schools. "This is the next step in a bold new beginning for both the school and our community."

Austin ISD's Highland Park Elementary School Scottie Shooters Place Fourth at National Competition

Highland Park Elementary School's archery team, the Scottie Shooters, recently placed fourth in the nation out of 190 teams in Louisville, KY on May 11-12.
 
This is the school's third year going to nationals, this year with a team of 47 fifth-graders and five-fourth graders.
 
The National Archery in the Schools Program hosts the tournament for students from elementary to high school. Nearly 15,000 took part this year.
 

Austin ISD invites families to review the updated curriculum for Human Sexuality and Responsibilty

Austin ISD invites families to review the district's revised Human Sexuality and Responsibility lessons and resources. 

The materials will be available 6-7:30 p.m. May 21 at Austin High School, 1715 Cesar Chavez St., to share your feedback in person via two online surveys.
 
Child care, light refreshments and Spanish interpretation will be available.

AISD is proposing to use the Get Real lessons for grades 6-8, and staff will write lessons for grades 3-5.

Graduating Seniors to Walk the Halls of Their Former Elementary Schools

Graduating seniors at both Crockett and Travis Early College High Schools will walk the halls of their former elementary schools to inspire future AISD graduates. 

What: Seniors will walk the halls of their former elementary schools in their graduation gowns. The event is designed to inspire younger students to graduate while allowing graduating seniors the opportunity to revisit their former schools to see how far they have come. Elementary teachers also get the opportunity to see their former students.

Austin ISD to hold Media Availability

What: Media is invited to join Austin ISD for an open discussion about items of interest on next week's regular board meeting to be held on Monday, May 20. 

The discussion will include the School Changes Guiding Principles. The guiding principles reflect Austin ISD's values that guide decision-making as the district reimagines the use and alignment of its assets.
