The Norman Tigers are on the move Thursday, May 23, and the entire community is invited to join in the celebration as G.W. Norman Elementary School Principal Wendy Mills, along with Austin ISD Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz, and the architects from Kirksey break ground on a new era for the elementary school.

"We are inviting all former students of Norman and Sims Elementary schools to attend the groundbreaking" said Mills, who serves as principal of the currently co-located schools. "This is the next step in a bold new beginning for both the school and our community."

The groundbreaking marks 12 months of construction to modernize the school into a 21st-century learning space, characterized by the smart use of space, integration of technology, collaborative workstations, outdoor learning spaces and student mobility in the classroom.

WHAT: The Norman Tigers are on the move to celebrate a new milestone in the Norman Elementary Modernization Project with a student parade from Sims Elementary to Norman and a groundbreaking ceremony at the Norman campus. A Community Construction Meeting will be held at Norman following the program, and everyone will be invited to discuss the construction schedule, the plan for housing students in an alternative location (if needed), and contact information for the community should issues arise during construction with the architecture team.
