District Offices and Schools Closed Monday, May 27

The Austin Independent School District will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. The district will resume regular business hours Tuesday, May 28.

Murchison Middle School Groundbreaking

On May 21, the Murchison Matadors Community gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Murchison Middle School as the modernization moves into the construction phase. Murchison MS is one of the campuses receiving a full modernization as part of the 2017 AISD Bond Program. The school will undergo Phase 1 of the full modernization, including a sixth-grade addition, library and administration relocation, annex roofing, and bus loop addition.

Local 8th grader raises money to pay off student lunch debt Check presentation on May 23

An eighth-grader from a local area school, Ben Hofer has pledged to eliminate the school lunch debt for Austin ISD's 129 schools. Hofer started this project he's calling "LunchCounts!" as part of a school project, with a goal of raising $18,000 to pay off all of the school lunch debt in the district.
 
Hofer has raised more than $9,000 for his cause since launching the GoFundMe campaign on April 21.
 

Trustees Approve Appointments of Three Executive Directors

Congratulations to three new leaders who have joined Austin ISD administration: Executive Director of School Leadership LaKesha Drinks, Executive Director of Human Resource Services Rosa Pena and Executive Director of School Leadership Deborah Warnken.
 
"We are truly fortunate to have such a great group of leaders within our district who, combined, have more than 50 years with the district," said Superintendent Paul Cruz. "Our leadership team welcomes these professionals and we look forward to working with each of them."

Facility Master Plan 2019 Update Survey Results

We would like to thank everyone who took time to complete and support the sharing of the survey regarding the update of the Austin ISD Facility Master Plan. 

More than 4,400 people took the survey, with representatives from every family of schools. This feedback will help inform recommendations that the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee will make for the Facility Master Plan 2019 update.

In October, Austin ISD hosts its own Pride Week, a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ students, staff and families and showcase the district's commitment to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.
