Travis ECHS Hosts Annual Tamale-making Party

Family and community members, trustees and staff joined students this week at Travis Early College High School’s annual tamalada, or tamale-making party.

While the group worked together to assemble 1,500 to 2,000 tamales, many reflected on memories with family.

“This is obviously a great cultural tradition in my family,” Austin ISD Board President Geronimo Rodriguez Jr. said. “I was the oldest one in the family, so I was the only one allowed to be in the kitchen. I was the taste-tester, so I learned tamales at the feet at some masters in our family.”

Pass/Fail Courses

Pass/Fail Courses

A high school student may choose to take a course on a pass/fail (P/F) basis, if the course is beyond state and district graduation requirements in that subject area and won't be used to satisfy the elective credit requirement for the graduation plan the student has declared.

The grade will not be included in the computation of the student’s grade point average.

Grades & Classifications

Letter Grades + Alpha-to-Numeric Conversion

When students transfer to Austin ISD from a school that gives letter grades, a uniform grading system for translating letter grades is used in all secondary schools. The chart below defines the alpha-to-numeric conversion used in AISD. When an alpha-to-numeric conversion scale is provided from the sending district, the sending district’s grading scale is used in lieu of AISD’s conversion chart.

#AISDFuture: Norman Community to Celebrate Site Dedication

Austin ISD welcomes students, staff and community members Dec. 8 to a site dedication for the modernized Norman Elementary School. The dedication will begin at 10 a.m. at the campus in northeast Austin, 4001 Tannehill Lane.

The dedication ceremony celebrates Norman's past by recognizing its namesake, Granville Webster Norman, an African-American educator who served Austin children for 32 years - from 1894 until 1928. Norman students will stage a living history museum where they'll dress like G.W. Norman and other local, historical figures of that time.
