AISD Police to Recognize Lanier Student with First 'Community Member Lifesaving Award'

The Austin ISD Police Department will recognize a Lanier Early College High School student Thursday with the organization's first Community Member Lifesaving Award for using CPR training to save a four-year-old child.

The student, who is part of the Lanier criminal justice academy, received first-aid and CPR/AED training for infants, children and adults as part of the program's curriculum. The training was put into action only days later when the student was babysitting a four-year-old neighbor that went into respiratory arrest and became unresponsive. The Lanier student performed CPR on the child and continued to do so until the child was transported to the hospital.
