Theatre

Austin ISD Fine Arts believes in strong theatre education because it develops well-rounded students by strengthening communication, critical thinking, literacy, collaboration, and creativity while supporting social-emotional growth, confidence, and empathy. Theatre connects academic learning to real-world skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, and technical expertise, while also promoting cultural understanding and civic engagement.

Music

Austin ISD Fine Arts believes in strong instrumental music education because it develops well-rounded students through music-making that builds discipline, creativity, collaboration, and critical listening while supporting confidence, perseverance, and social-emotional growth. Instrumental music instruction connects academic learning to real-world skills such as teamwork, goal-setting, time management, and technical proficiency, while also fostering cultural understanding and civic engagement through performance and ensemble participation.

Dance

Dance

Students in grades six through 12 are offered four basic strands—perception; creative expression; historical and cultural relevance; and critical evaluation and response. These strands provide broad, unifying structures for organizing the knowledge and skills students are expected to acquire.

Dance students develop perceptual thinking and movement abilities in daily life, promoting an understanding of themselves and others. Students develop movement principles and technical skills, and explore choreographic and performance qualities.
