Austin ISD student enrollment exceeds projection

Today the Austin Independent School District provided a snapshot of the organization's 2016-17 school year enrollment, and the number of students currently attending AISD exceeds projection for the first time in three years.

The membership for the district during the 2016-17 school year was projected to be 82,690. At the end of the first six weeks, Sept. 30, student enrollment in AISD was at 83,238 or 548 students above projection.

Austin ISD schools are participating in this year’s National Read for the Record day by inviting special guests to read this year’s book, “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich,” by Julia Sarcone-Roach.

Austin ISD Now Serves Breakfast in the Classroom at 25 Schools

Austin ISD Food Services is providing breakfast to more students than ever with the Breakfast in the Classrooms program. The program, which AISD implemented two years ago, is offered at 25 schools as of this month.

“We’re focused on expanding healthy meals to all our students,” Food Services Director Anneliese Tanner said. “You really build relationships when you share a meal with your teachers and classmates.”

Drive Through, Drop-off: AISD Police Holds Drug Take Back

Austin ISD Police Department is encouraging community members to drop off expired or unwanted medications this weekend to be disposed of properly.

What: Please drop off expired or unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medications with labels that have identifying information removed or blacked out to be disposed of properly.

Allowable items include prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, medication samples, vitamins, syrups, ointments, lotions and inhalers.
