Join us at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center for the 2016 Choral Festival, featuring the incredible AISD north elementary, middle and high school honor choirs!

Students from the Anderson, Eastside Memorial, LBJ ECHS, LASA, Lanier, McCallum, and Reagan ECHS families of schools will be performing.

Tickets are free, and are available from AISD choir students.

Race for Tickets: Circuit of the Americas Donates 500 tickets to AISD Staff

Austin ISD’s Educator Quality Department is partnering with Circuit of the Americas to recognize staff. COTA has donated 500 vouchers to distribute to staff for Sunday's Formula 1 race and Usher & The Roots concert on Oct. 23.

What: Voucher pickups for first 500 staff members, who submitted their name are receiving one voucher, good for two general admission tickets to the Formula 1 race.

When: Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 6–8 p.m.

Where: Austin High School’s cafeteria, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez St. 

Blackshear Elementary School 'Minitropolis' Teaches Students to be Responsible Citizens

In the Blackshear Minitropolis, students are producers and consumers and interact with each other to support a mock economy.

The Minitropolis program introduces students to different careers.

What: Students perform jobs at the school, such as banking, human resources, sales and reporting. The experience introduces students to different careers and nurtures the social, academic and real-life skills needed to be successful, responsible citizens. 

AISD Celebrates Bus Safety and Transportation Employees

National School Bus Safety Week and AISD’s Transportation Employee Appreciation Week are Oct. 17–21.

This year’s theme is “Stop on Red” to remind motorists not to pass school buses while loading and unloading students. Each year, AISD transports 22,000 students on more than 400 routes. During the 2015–16 school year, AISD buses covered more than 6.5 million miles.

Becker Elementary School Teacher Named 2017 Texas Teacher of the Year

The Texas Association of School Administrators announced today that Becker Elementary School teacher Allison Ashley has been chosen as the 2017 Texas Teacher of the Year.

Ashley was named 2017 Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year today and then selected from the two state-level winners (elementary and secondary) to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program.
