Rosedale School Toasts Graduates, Anticipates Promising Futures

Rosedale School Principal Elizabeth Dickey explained her job to families and supporters on Tuesday:  

"My job here is to cry openly. That way, you can join in."

Amid song, speeches and more than a few tears, seven students received their diplomas, capping another extraordinary year for the school charged with fostering the futures of students with special needs.

Dickey spoke about the school's two guiding mottos for the year. 

"We can do hard things, and we belong to each other," Dickey said. "Thank you for showing us what these words mean every day."

New 2016–17 Bell Schedule for All Students

The bell schedule for all Austin ISD students will change this fall because of a new state law measuring the school day in minutes instead of days.

To comply with this new law, AISD must extend the elementary school day. Because of the size of our district and our transportation system, change affects schedules for our middle school and high school students. 

After taking into account the feedback from numerous surveys and outreach efforts to families and teachers, the district created the following bell schedule:

Dual Language Parent Information Session

There will be a Dual Language information session on August 16th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the AISD Performing Arts Center.

Parents and families will connect with others in a conversation about Austin ISD's Dual Language initiative, learning about the program and getting tips on supporting bilingualism/bilculturalism in their child.

The meeting will be facilitated by national bilingual-dual language expert Cheryl Urow, co-founder of the the Center for Teaching for Biliteracy.

The Austin ISD PAC is located at 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.

Con Mi Madre End of the Year Pachanga!

Con Mi Madre will have their end of year pachanga on Sunday, June 5 from 11 AM to 2 PM at their offices located at 1925 San Jacinto Blvd. The event is free and will serve as a celebration for their current participants but is also open to those who are interested.

AISD Classified Job Fair

Austin ISD Human Resources will host a job fair for various classified positions from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 14 at the Delco Center.  

Positions to be filled include bus drivers, food service manager trainees, substitute food production specialists and service center positions including:

  • groundskeepers
  • grounds equipment operator
  • heavy equipment operator
  • building operators I-III
  • plumber
  • AC mechanic, refrigerant mechanic and controls technician
  • locksmith/hardware repair mechanic
