Austin ISD Congratulates 2016 UpClose Leadership Graduates

On May 17, participants in this year's UpClose Leadership program were honored during a graduation ceremony at the Clifton Center.

During the past year, participants learned about the district's curriculum and instruction, safety and security, campus operations, human capital, facilities, HB5 and graduation plans, budget and finance, district operations, and board governance.

The class was divided into four groups, each of which worked with a specific chool to help improve literacy rates and increase attendance rates. The four schools were:

Join AISD for a special announcement and a celebration of the Kellogg grant initiative to date. Find out from parents and schools what the process has meant to them, learn what’s next between AISD and the Kellogg Foundation and join a community walk to learn more about the process.

Last year, The W. K. Kellogg Foundation awarded Austin ISD $330,000 for a nine-month planning initiative to build better communication with families whose children attend five schools in the Rundberg area.

Austin ISD Honors Its Best at Salute 2016

Putting the finishing touches on another standout school year, Austin ISD honored its finest at Salute 2016 on May 17 at the AISD Performing Arts Center.

Noteworthy nominees in a variety of categories headlined an oustanding group of educators, counselors, librarians and support staff that continues to reinvent the urban school experience.

The winners are:

City Recognizes AISD for Districtwide Recycling Practices

Keep Austin Beautiful has recognized Austin ISD as a leader in the goal of becoming a zero-waste city.

This spring, Keep Austin Beautiful teamed up with Austin Resource Recovery to support the Austin Recycles Games, a competition from December to April initiated by Austin Resource Recovery as a way to increase recycling rates and help residents understand what is and is not recyclable.
