Committee Announces Eight Names for Renaming of Lee Elementary School

After a robust community engagement process, the Lee Elementary School’s Campus Advisory Council announced it has identified eight names to be considered for the renaming of Lee Elementary School.

The community submitted hundreds of names from which the eight were chosen. From the eight, the CAC will submit three of these names to the Board on May 3, which is scheduled to take action on a new name on May 23.

Mural of the Story: McBee Shares Wall of Art

The community is invited to McBee Elementary School to celebrate a hand-painted 200-foot-long mural on school grounds. The mural is a joint project between local Austin artist Ethan Azarian and students from McBee. 

What: The celebration will begin with an introduction of the artist in the library. Following brief comments about the project, there will be a tour of the mural. Refreshments will be provided. 

Youth Film & Food Festival

The best of food and film collide from from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 14th at the Marchesa Hall and Theatre. The Youth Film and Food Festival showcases students from elementary through high school in the fields of media and culinary arts.

Participants will gather for the screening of student-created 30 second (psa) films, visit healthy living and food stations and celebrate their great work in advocating for a healthier community.

To promote our health, wellness, and anti-obesity service initiative, our hope is that each student will depart this event equipped with decision making skills to make good food choices.

Marchesa Hall and Theatre is located at 6226 Middle Fiskville Rd.

12th Annual St. John Unity Walk and Reagan Vertical Team Festival

The 12th annual St. John Unity Walk and Reagan Vertical Team Festival will take place on April 30.

Families and staff will gather at Webb Middle School at 9am where they will then march to Reagan High School. 

The Reagan Vertical Team Festival will take place in the Reagan gym from 10am to noon.  There will be performances, music, food, resources and a raffle!

People can arrive at Webb Middle School by 8:30 a.m. if they wish to make signs before the walk.  

Lucy Read Pre-K Center Celebrates 10 Years

Lucy Read Pre-K Center and Austin ISD invite the public to a pop-up adventure play event in honor of the school’s 10th birthday.  

What: The pop-up adventure play event will feature a petting zoo, free popcorn, refreshments and face painting as well as a chance to win raffle prizes. 

Families will also have opportunities to decorate a cake together for $8 and visit with Clifford the Big Red Dog and HEBuddy.

The event is rain or shine.
