Austin ISD Holiday Break

Austin ISD will be closed Dec. 20, 2014, through Jan. 4, 2015, for the holiday break. The last day of classes is Dec. 18; the last day for staff is Dec. 19.

Classes and work schedules resume Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.

We wish everyone a safe and restful holiday break, and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Voters Choose Gordon, Saldaña, Pace in Trustee Runoff Election

Voters elected Edmund “Ted” Gordon, Paul Saldaña and Kendall Pace as the three newest members of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees.

Today’s runoff election decided the races in geographical districts 1 and 6, and the District 9 at-large position. Those candidates faced each other in a runoff after none earned 50 percent or more of the vote in the Nov. 4 general election.

Austin ISD Announces Schools Frozen to Transfers for 2015–16

Each year, Austin ISD determines which schools should be frozen to transfers because they have, or are expected to have, enrollments that exceed their capacities.

Some schools also are frozen to maintain stability in tracking patterns.

The administration will constantly monitor space in all schools as boundary changes and/or reassignments are approved by the board of trustees.

Trustees Name Dr. Paul Cruz Sole Finalist for AISD Superintendent

Former chief schools officer, deputy commissioner for dropout prevention has led initiatives to increase student achievement across Austin

 

AUSTIN, Texas—Tonight, Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees named Paul Cruz, Ph.D., as the sole finalist for the permanent superintendent position. Prior to being named interim superintendent in April, Cruz served as the district’s chief schools officer for five years.

Trustees Name Lauro Dávalos as Principal of Pickle Elementary School

Tonight, Austin ISD's Board of Trustees approved the appointment of José Lauro Dávalos as the principal of Pickle Elementary School.

Dávalos currently serves as high school office administrative supervisor in AISD’s high schools office. In this role, he supervised 11 comprehensive high schools and nine specialty schools. He also trained area superintendents and the Austin Community College president on the Texas Success Initiative.

He previously served as an assistant principal, graduation coach and physics/environment systems teacher at Austin High School in Houston ISD.

AISD Board of Trustees Approve New Principal Appointment at Pickle Elementary School

Tonight, Austin ISD's Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Dr. José Lauro Dávalos as the principal of Pickle Elementary School.
