Reminder: AISD Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

AUSTIN, Texas—The Austin Independent School District will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Friday, Nov. 28.

All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period. The district will resume regular business hours Monday, Dec. 1.

MEDIA ADVISORY Webb Middle School Students Perform at Free St. John’s Tree Lighting

Join the St. John’s community in a free, public holiday event featuring musical performances, face painting, crafts, snacks and Santa lighting a holiday tree.

Who: United Way for Greater Austin, a local nonprofit and community service organization, is sponsoring this tree lighting with musical performances by Webb Middle School students.

Webb Middle School Hosts College Readiness Conference

ENCORE "Engaging Community for College Readiness," is a student and family conference hosted by Webb Early College Prep Middle School Principal Raul Sanchez from 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. 

This second annual event will feature Vince Young, six-season NFL quarterback and former UT-Austin quarterback, who will present the opening remarks and be available for photos with students. A holiday dinner will be served at 12:30 p.m.

Media Advisory: Diverse Religious Panel to Discuss Cultural Differences with Students

A collaboration of Muslim, Evangelical Christian, Jewish and Eastern Orthodox panelists will discuss similarities and differences in views on Jerusalem at a cultural event for O.Henry middle school 6th grade students.

At the event, students will watch National Geographic's IMAX 3D film “Jerusalem” and then interact with panelists for a post-film discussion and Q&A.

Austin ISD Board Runoff Early Voting Begins Dec. 1; Election Dec. 16

The Austin Independent School District board runoff election will be Dec. 16. 

The full board consists of nine members. Voters will elect Trustee Single Member Positions 1 and 6 as well as the At-Large Position 9. During the Nov. 4 election, voters re-elected incumbent Robert Schneider to the District 7 seat and selected Julie Cowan as the new District 4 trustee.
