AISD Encourages Employees to Take Health Risk Assessment

Austin ISD is encouraging all employees to make #AISDProud and take a step toward better health by taking a Health Risk Assessment.

Through Oct. 31, AISD employees who are eligible for health care benefits can take a free, 100 percent confidential Health Risk Assessment.

The assessment can identify general risks for developing a health condition and, upon completion, connect you with a nurse for follow-up care.

Austin ISD Encourages Veterans to Apply for Diplomas

Since 2002, Austin ISD has awarded belated high school diplomas to war veterans who have served in the armed forces without finishing high school. 

Veterans who are eligible have served in World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Iraq War, War in Afghanistan or any other formally declared war by the U.S.

AISD will award diplomas in a special veterans graduation ceremony as part of the district’s Veterans Day observance Tuesday, Nov. 11.

A Legacy of Leadership: AAUL Adopts Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy

When the Austin Area Urban League celebrated its 37th Annual Equal Opportunity Day Gala this weekend, the civil rights organization announced its members are adopting the Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy.

AAUL assists African-Americans and all under-served Austin-area residents to achieve societal and economic equality by focusing on educational improvement, employment readiness, health and wellness, and the preservation of affordable housing.

Cunningham Teacher Earns Children in Nature Award, Welcomes Community to Join Fall Farm Days

When children at Cunningham Elementary School have questions about where their food comes from, they do not need to look far for an answer. The Cobras are gaining hands-on experience in the farm-to-table process just a few feet away from their classroom.

Lauren Maples, a second grade teacher at Cunningham, has developed a school community farm, which brings children, educators and community members together. To more easily sustain the campus farm, the school's community works collaboratively to tend the land as a group.

KLRU Invites AISD to Help Guide New American Graduate Project

AISD is joining KLRU and community partners to raise awareness about dropout rates and to create sustainable solutions to boost high-school readiness,

KLRU, Austin's PBS station, has been awarded a $200,000 American Graduate community service grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is designed to raise awareness in Central Texas about the true costs of our youth leaving school before graduation, as well as efforts conducted in our region to reduce dropout rates.

Join Austin ISD as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a Latin America–focused documentary series of brown bag sessions.

The documentaries will be shown at noon every Tuesday through Oct. 14 in the Board Auditorium.

Refreshments will be provided.
