AISD Honors Students, Community with Latino Academic Achievement Awards Saturday
AUSTIN, Texas—The Austin Independent School District will honor outstanding Latino sixth- through 12th-grade students and Austin community members at the annual Latino Academic Achievement Awards.
When: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10.
Where: University of Texas at Austin, LBJ Auditorium, 2315 Red River St.
Background: AISD will recognize students and community volunteers and organizations, including:

AUSTIN, Texas—Today, the Austin Downtown Founders Lions Club honored two Austin ISD high school athletic teams—along with their coaches, school communities and fans—with Sportsmanship Awards.
The Lions Club presented awards to Bowie’s football team, which is coached by Jeff Ables, and Anderson’s girls basketball team, which is coached by Katrina Hall.
Media Advisory: News Media Access to Schools Limited During STAAR Examination Periods
Austin, Texas—Students in the Austin Independent School District are scheduled to take state, including the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness,during May.
To reduce distractions and help students focus on their tests, the news media's access to AISD campuses will be limited during the week of:
- May 12 for STAAR.
In addition, the district will administer advanced placement exams, also commonly referred to as AP exams, May 5-16.
Becker Elementary Accepting Applications for Two-Way Dual Language Program
AUSTIN, Texas--Austin ISD's Becker Elementary School in South Central Austin is accepting applications for Spanish-speaking children entering the Two-way Dual Language program for the 2014-15 school year, from Pre-K to 5th grade.
Becker has a Two-way Dual Language academic program in which students, who speak English or Spanish as a first language, are taught in the same classroom.
AISD Students Join Inaugural Walk at North Acres Bridge and Sidewalk Project Celebration Tomorrow
AUSTIN, Texas—Tomorrow morning, Austin ISD will join the City of Austin’s Public Works Department, city officials, neighborhood leaders and partners at a ribbon-cutting for the North Acres Bridge and Sidewalk Project.
What: Child Safety Crossing Guards will escort Hart Elementary School students across the bridge to the campus. City and AISD officials and partners will speak about the project as the children walk to school.
When: 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 7.
