Afterschool Showcase to Highlight Programs to Boost Student Success

The AISD Afterschool Showcase will be 9 a.m.–noon on Saturday, April 26, at Kealing Middle School, 1607 Pennsylvania Ave. The event will allow AISD after-school students to showcase their talents.

The vision of AISD Afterschool is to make a positive difference in the livese of students through learning, thriving, connecting, serving and leading. The goals of AISD Afterschool are to:

  • Increase academic achievement and college readiness
  • Increase work/career awareness and preparation
  • Increase physical health and safety
  • Increase interpersonal/social connections and well-being
  • Increase civic and community engagement

AISD Afterschool provides after-school programs to more than 7,000 students attending 58 schools, including five high schools, 11 middle schools and 42 elementary schools. AISD Afterschool collaborates with 41 youth-service organizations to provide high-quality after-school programs that are aligned with national and state best practices.

AISD Holds Community Conversation About 2014-15 Preliminary Budget Wednesday

AUSTIN, Texas—AISD invites families and staff and community members to learn more about AISD's 2014-15 preliminary budget and the district’s strategic investment in priorities, projected shortfalls and long-range financial planning.

What:  Nicole Conley, chief financial officer, and the district’s budget team will provide information about AISD’s preliminary budget and will be available to answer questions about the district’s finances.

When: from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9.

AISD's 2014 Youth Art Month celebration—Art Can Take Many Shapes—highlights student artwork from throughout the district.

Hundreds of photos, sculptures, drawings and much more are on display at the district art show inside the Wells Fargo building downtown, 111 Congress Ave.

Check out the student projects 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday–Friday and 9 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday. The art will be on display through April 14.
