April 11 Update from AISD Board President

On April 11, Vincent Torres, president of the AISD Board of Trustees, provided the following update to AISD employees, families and the community:

Dear AISD community,

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees met this past Monday in open session and Tuesday in executive session to continue to discuss and develop a contingency plan should Dr. Meria Carstarphen be officially chosen to lead Atlanta Public Schools on April 14.

The Ladies of Distinction of LBJ will meet with a few high-needs girls at Garcia Middle School to create a positive change in their lives. Garcia feeds into LBJ, and the connection between students at the schools helps ease the transition to high school. Mentoring can help change lives and the Ladies of Distinction are stepping up to do so!

Allison Elementary Invites Community to STEMulate Your Mind

AUSTIN, Texas—Allison Elementary School invites the community to learn about S.T.E.M programs at its STEMulate Your Mind family event tomorrow evening.

What: The event includes more than 40 interactive booths, robotic presentations and a how-to on developing web pages. A raffle will also be held, with prizes ranging from Wiis and glow-in-the-dark STEMulate Your Mind T-shirts to Halo Lego Sets and kites. The event takes place throughout the school.

AISD to Host Free Citywide Electronics Recycling Event April 26

AUSTIN, Texas—The Austin Independent School District will host a free, citywide electronics recycling event Saturday, April 26 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot at Austin High School, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez St.

Consumers are encouraged to bring their used electronics to the event for recycling; accepted items are listed below. The event is being coordinated by ARC, a technology partner of AISD, and Fone4Schools, an organization that helps local schools raise money by converting donated electronics into funds for student programs.
