Austin, TX—This morning, Austin ISD student leaders welcome Antonio Garza, former U.S. ambassador to Mexico, to Pickle Elementary School to discuss international relations, as well as his childhood and career.

Who: Antonio Garza joins Pickle elementary students, including David Lopez and Marlen Rogel, fifth graders who serve as president and vice president of the student council, and Joanna Ritchie, Amanique Stanton and Jessica Urias, second through fourth graders.

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District will be closed for the winter break, Monday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Jan. 4.

All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period. The district will resume regular business hours Monday, Jan. 7.

Announcement of Schools Frozen to Transfers for 2013-14 (Discussion)

Each year, the district determines which schools should be frozen to transfers because they have, or are expected to have, enrollments that exceed their capacities. Also, some schools are frozen to maintain stability in tracking patterns.

The superintendent announced the following:

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District’s Board of Trustees voted to approve four Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations, including expanding and extending dual language programs, continuing the work of Responsive Education Solutions to strengthen graduation pathways, creating an in-district charter at Travis Heights Elementary School and offering students a dynamic approach to learning through the Any Given Child creative learning initiative to move the district from arts-involved to arts-rich.
